Thompson’s Beach
Australia’s largest inland beach is only a few minutes drive from the centre of town, it is located in an idyllic setting and is a lovely spot to soak up the tranquility of the Murray River. Shaded by the magnificent, towering river red gums and floodlit in the evenings, it is the perfect spot to relax or for a family get-together.
Enjoy free electric BBQ’s, a playground area for children, swimming, walking, beach cricket, volleyball, canoeing and fishing.
Ku de Ta Cafe is located among the gums and is the perfect place to relax and enjoy some great food and drinks. Open for Lunch and DInner Wed- Sun.
Take a ride on COBBA, the restored paddleboat that operates all year round with daily cruises. Take in the views of the Murray from the river itself, these hour cruises are a nice way to relax with friends and enjoy the twists and turns of this mighty river. Tickets can be purchased on board or at the local Tourism Office.
Byramine Homestead
Today ’Byramine Homestead’ is open to the public as an enchanting memorial to those hard pioneer days of so long ago. While visiting Byramine Homestead you can enjoy a sumptuous Devonshire Tea, Ploughman’s Lunch, or something off the specialities board. You can even enjoy a traditional English High Tea, just as Elizabeth would have over 150 years ago.Historic Byramine Homestead, was built in 1842 by famous explorer Hamilton Hume for his sister-in-law Elizabeth and her nine children after her husband ]ohn Hume was killed by bushrangers. The homestead was designed by an English architect for use in India and built on a beautiful site by a lagoon on low sand hills, forested in Pine.
